In Memoriam

Chairman Bo Mazzetti

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Chairman Bo Mazzetti, a visionary leader, steadfast advocate, and beloved Chairman of the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians.  Chairman Mazzetti passed away on May 1, 2025 at the age of 77. He spent his final moments in the comforting presence of those he loved.

Chairman Mazzetti's unwavering commitment to his people and the broader Native American community has left a lasting mark on history. As the long-serving Chairman of the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians, he championed initiatives that transformed his tribe's economic landscape, notably through the development of Harrah’s Resort Southern California, fostering self-reliance and prosperity for future generations.

Beyond economic achievements, Chairman Mazzetti was instrumental in the establishment of the California Tribal Chairpersons Association (CTCA), uniting tribes across the state to advocate collectively for Indigenous rights and interests . His leadership extended to environmental stewardship, where he played a pivotal role in the San Luis Rey Indian Water Authority, securing vital water rights for multiple tribes.

A U.S. Navy veteran who served two tours in Vietnam, Chairman Mazzetti's dedication to service was evident in every facet of his life. His efforts in improving infrastructure, such as the development of the Rincon Government Center, and his advocacy for education through partnerships with local school districts, exemplify his inclusive approach to community development.

Chairman Bo Mazzetti's legacy is one of resilience, vision, and unwavering dedication to the empowerment of Native communities. His life's work serves as a guiding light for current and future leaders committed to justice, sovereignty, and the enduring strength of Indigenous peoples.

Chairman Bo Mazzetti was more than a leader. He was a warrior, a unifier, and a beacon of strength whose impact will resonate for generations to come.

May he rest in peace
